Intro to Drawing: Fundamentals - Thursdays, Starting September 21st - October 5th from 6:30-8:30pm (3 Classes)
Drawing is the most valuable skill in all the visual arts and is core to many artistic disciplines. Think of drawing as the scaffolding that all art is built upon. With a strong foundation, an idea can go from a simple sketch to a well developed idea, and to a final work of art. In this class we will focus on drawing what you see, not just what you expect to see.
While learning basics like composition, line, and value, students will explore drawing with pencil and charcoal. Instruction will include step-by-step demonstrations and individualized guidance.
This course is designed for adult beginner students looking to develop their drawing skills.
We will go over:
Week 1: Developing hand-eye coordination through preliminary drawing exercises and building their observation skills through drawing a traditional still life with black on white paper.
Week 2: Understanding how light creates value and effects form with value charts and drawing with white pencil on black paper.
Week 3: Composition and creating a final still-life of the students choosing using light and dark values.
Note: If you have any objects that you’d like to bring in for your final still-life, feel free to either bring them in or run them by us.
Ideas: shoes, mugs, flowers, etc. Items that are visually interesting!
