In a typical beginner class, one would gain an understanding of the color wheel, which focuses on primary and secondary colors, as well as how certain color combinations work together.
However, how you interpret the color wheel can be so much more than simply knowing how to mix and mingle red, yellow, blue, orange, green, and purple. Understanding color schemes, which helps boost our color knowledge, is essential for creatives, such as artists and designers. We can bring this to a beginner level as well.
When you get the value structure right, you can plug in all sorts of interesting color combinations and still have the image “make sense” in the eyes of the viewer.
In this program, students will learn to identity values and translate (i.e. convert) them from one color to another while keeping the subject of the painting still recognizable and the imagine still “making sense”. We will go over common color schemes that artists uses and how to translate them to our artwork using the concept of value.
