In this workshop students will learn about the concept of positive and negative space and will create a painting using negative space as a technique to create a sense of depth in their painting.

What’s interesting about watercolor is that with nearly every other type of painting, you would add lighter colors on top of darker ones to create contrast and highlights. However, watercolor is different. Because the paint is transparent, you need to move from the lightest color to the darkest. That’s where watercolor negative painting comes in as a unique and useful skill.
